Practice Better review: what it covers, where it stops and who it fits

Practice Better reviewed from the vendor's own pages: what it covers for dietitians and coaches, where the free plan stops, and who should look elsewhere.

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-29

Quick answerPractice Better is practice software for dietitians, nutritionists and health coaches that combines scheduling, session notes, invoicing, video visits and a client portal. Its free Sprout plan holds 3 clients. It fits a solo or small practice that wants one tool; a practice built around insurance claims should check that part first.
Practice Better is likely to fit when

✓ Solo dietitians, nutritionists and health coaches who want scheduling, notes, billing and video in one account

✓ Small practices that expect to sell programs or add a second practitioner

✓ Practitioners with a few clients who want to start on a free or entry plan

✓ Practitioners who want a built-in food database and a meal-planning link

Important limitations

— People who only need a free booking page

— Practices whose work is mainly insurance billing at volume

— Large groups that need a custom package from a sales team

— Anyone looking for professional or legal advice on licensing and records

Practice Better review: what it is and what the vendor's pages show

Practice Better is cloud software for running a health or wellness practice. Its pages list dietitians, nutritionists, health coaches, naturopathic doctors, chiropractors and mental health professionals among the people it serves, so the menus are broad and the nutrition tools sit beside general ones. This review reads the vendor's pricing page, feature pages and help center, dated October 29, 2026, and treats anything the vendor says about itself as its own claim.

For a nutrition practice the core is simple. Clients book online, you document each visit in a note template, you send an invoice or take a card payment, and you can meet by video inside the same account. Clients also get a portal and a mobile app for forms, messages and food journals.

Strengths: what Practice Better covers for a nutrition or coaching practice

  • Scheduling: every plan lists a public booking page and widgets, custom services and availability, and session reminders. Group classes start on the Professional plan.
  • Notes: note templates and form templates are listed on every plan. The charting page names SOAP, ADIME, DAP and BIRP formats plus custom templates, and the help center says a signed note is locked and cannot be edited.
  • Billing: invoices, deposits and payment plans, and Practice Better Payments for cards. Superbills, the itemized lists clients can send to an insurer, are listed too. Deposits and payment plans start on Professional.
  • Video visits: one-on-one video is built in from the Starter plan up, and the vendor says no Zoom account is required.
  • Food and lifestyle tools: food and lifestyle journals, goals, protocols, a food database of over 600,000 foods and a That Clean Life meal-planning link, with the database and link listed from Starter up.
  • Programs: fixed-date programs start on Professional; self-paced and evergreen programs start on Plus.

Limits: where Practice Better stops or asks for more

  • The free Sprout plan holds 3 clients, one practitioner and 100 MB of storage, and its feature table shows no built-in video. Starter holds 10 clients.
  • Client limits are the first wall: Professional holds 300 clients, and unlimited clients start on Plus.
  • Text reminders need purchased credits on Professional. Plus includes 750 a month and Team includes 2,000.
  • AI note drafting is a separate paid add-on, and recording a video visit needs it, according to the help center.
  • More than one practitioner needs the Team plan, which lists two practitioner licenses and more at an extra charge per practitioner.
  • Insurance billing is outside this site's scope: confirm claim support for your payers and your state with the vendor.

Who Practice Better fits and who should look elsewhere

  • Fits a solo dietitian or coach who wants scheduling, notes, billing and video in one account and expects to grow past a handful of clients.
  • Fits a coach who sells group programs, because fixed-date, self-paced and evergreen programs are built in on the higher plans.
  • Fits a small team on the Team plan, which adds a shared calendar, team chat and custom roles.
  • Look elsewhere if you only need a free booking page, because a full practice system is more than that job requires.
  • Look elsewhere if another layout of nutrition tools appeals more; Practice Better vs Healthie sets the closest nutrition rival beside it.

How to test Practice Better before you pay

Every paid plan starts with a trial: 14 days, or 30 days on Team, and the pricing page says there is no contract. Use the trial on a real week. Book a test client, write a note from the SOAP template, send an invoice, run a video visit and invite a client to the portal. The help center has a guide to setting up a test client. Before you upgrade, remember that a downgrade needs your client count to fit the lower plan. The pricing guide sets out the limits plan by plan.

How this review was made

Plan facts come from Practice Better's own pricing and feature pages, its help center and its comparison page, with Healthie's pages for contrast. HIPAA wording comes from the federal definitions in 45 CFR 160.103. Vendor marketing, such as customer quotes, review counts and best-in-class claims, is treated as the vendor's own claim. Amounts stay on the vendor's live page because its monthly and annual views differ, and plans can change.

The evidence behind this buying guidance

This guide draws on Practice Better pricing page, Practice Better home page, Practice Better charting feature page, Practice Better help center, creating and managing client session notes. Merchant-controlled records describe the provider’s own capabilities, terms or standards; they do not independently validate those claims. Other cited records provide additional context.
